I want to thank our staff, clients and friends at MEDITECH for another wonderful year. We appreciate the support and encouragement we receive from all of you. Last month, I shared several recent messages recognizing our staff for outstanding service. These gestures go a long way to reinforcing our commitment to excellence.
The end of the year is a time of reflection and in this month’s newsletter we share our observations on 2019 as well as thoughts on 2020. Wishing you all happy holidays and a safe and healthy 2020.

MEDITECH experienced positive momentum in 2019. This is worth reviewing to gain appreciation of how far MEDITECH has come in the last year. Here are some highlights of the exciting news:
Further, NHA updated our annual research of MEDITECH hospital performance on quality and value outcomes and, once again, MEDITECH Expanse hospitals outperform Epic and Cerner hospitals on multiple measures.
Here are the areas we expect to hear more about from MEDITECH in 2020:
NHA enjoyed an exceptional year in 2019. Here are a few highlights:
Halton Healthcare Joins Connected Care Halton Ontario Health Team
Congratulations to our client Halton Healthcare on earning a coveted spot as a leader of the Connected Care Halton Ontario Health Team (CCHOHT). The Ontario government is building a connected health care system centered around patients, families and caregivers. These changes will strengthen local services, making it easier for patients to navigate the health system and transition between providers. Various Ontario Health Teams are being introduced to provide a new way of organizing and delivering care that is more connected to patients in their local communities. Healthcare providers (including hospitals, doctors and home and community care providers) will work as one coordinated team, no matter where they provide care.
The CCHOHT is one of 24 teams in the province and will be guided by a steering committee with equal leadership representation from Acclaim Health, The Mississauga Halton LHIN, Halton Healthcare, Halton Region and a primary care physician from within the geographical area of Halton Hills, Milton and Oakville. In addition to these five partners, there were more than 80 primary care physicians and 27 health service provider organizations in the Halton communities that signed an expression of interest to continue planning discussions with the CCHOHT.

NHA of Canada Highlights from 2019
As 2019 winds down, we reflect on the accomplishments we have been able to help our Canadian-based clients achieve. Here is a brief description of our partnerships and successes:
MEDITECH READY Expanse Implementations (LIVE Sites)
MEDITECH READY Expanse Implementations (Underway)
Optimization Services (Underway or Compete)
In other news, MEDITECH’s Assistant Vice President, Christine Parent, discusses MEDITECH’s history and commitment to the Canadian market.
There have been several questions raised since the publication of our AUC article last month asking if the PAMA Acceptable Use Criteria requirements fall under the usual CMS Medical Necessity requirements for reimbursement. Our use of “medical necessity” was meant as an analogy and does not refer to Medicare’s use of National or Local Coverage Determinations to determine fulfillment of criteria.
Further, MEDITECH has informed us that the latest billing updates from CMS for HCPCS G-Codes and AUC modifiers will be developed and delivered before the mandatory inclusion date of January 1, 2021. Expect more information from MEDITECH later in 2020.
We are pleased to share the following testimonial from one of our Expanse clients:
