Position Summary

The Systems Administrator III administers and monitors HSL’s server infrastructure to ensure peak performance. The Systems Administrator III will be responsible for offering cross functional support to plan, direct the design, operation, and maintenance of a broad array of complex systems infrastructure The Systems Administrator III help establish and applies the company’s IT server and data storage policies and procedures. Relying upon experiences and judgment, the Systems Administrator III will accomplish project goals established by the Senior Network Manager. The Systems Administrator III will act a mentor and escalation point for Systems Administrators I and II.

Primary Technologies

Microsoft Windows Server operating systems, Active Directory, VMWare, Citrix, enterprise storage technologies.

Position Responsibilities

  • Design and manage a broad array of high level IT server systems.
  • The installation and administration of all Windows based servers as well as a Virtualized environment using VMWare and Citrix.
  • Implement, test and release software updates/patches. Install, configure, and troubleshoot servers, storage, and PC’s.
  • Rack and install server equipment.
  • Possess advanced technical abilities in multiple HSL core technologies (Vmware, Citrix, etc.). This includes evaluation, design, installation, and support of those systems.
  • Provides technical support by responding to inquiries from others regarding errors, problems, or questions about software, hardware, systems and infrastructure.
  • Provide regular reports on server, application and system operations, reliability and key performance indicators to management.
  • Monitor environmental systems (AC, Power, etc.) and notify appropriate parties when issues arise.
  • Performs regular system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
  • Design, implement, and maintain data integrity, backups, restores and disaster recovery.
  • Ensure basic preventative maintenance is performed and operating system/application upgrade activities have been completed.
  • Performs deep dive analysis as it relates to troubleshooting production related issues.
  • Recommends and implements machine modifications or additional equipment to increase system capacities.
  • Proposes, maintains and enforces server policies, practices and security procedures.
  • Performs product comparisons and make recommendations.
  • Consults with users to determine hardware and software requirements.
  • Acts as Project Lead on inter and intra departmental projects. Lead responsibilities include:
    • Guiding business owners through Project Definition Document process
    • Actively updating the IT Project List
    • Distributing executive status reports
    • Running periodic meeting with business owners
  • Works with IT management and other departments on long term IT strategy and makes recommendations.
  • Tracks operating costs, estimates future capital expenditures, makes recommendations to manager and engages business owner regarding budget matters.
  • May be called upon to lead interdepartmental presentations.
  • Maintains, enforces, and makes recommendations regarding IT policies.
  • Mentors Systems Administrators 1 & 2.
  • May be called upon to participate in interdepartmental committees.
  • Works with Vendors to arrange product presentation, escalate support issues, and develop proposals.
  • Proactively research new products and make recommendations.
  • Escalation from Administrator II on advanced issues.
  • Works independently. Takes initiative on new projects. Takes direction from Senior Network Manager. Assesses and organizes priorities for Server group.
  • Attends local user groups and conferences. May travel to regional conferences.
  • Any other duties as called upon by manager.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in multiple technologies such as server/desktop virtualization, Active Directory, Citrix, VMWare, Security, E-mail, Windows, Windows Exchange server, automation, and disaster recovery.
  • Experience with storage arrays
  • Project management experience

Preferred

  • Vmware certification
  • Citrix certification
  • Experience in Health Care/ Research environment.
  • Microsoft Sql Server administration
  • Linux

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to push/pull and lift 50 lbs
  • Available during emergencies 7 x 24 on-call
