Application Analyst II

Under the direction of the Application Manager, this position will play a critical role in the design, development, testing, documentation and implementation of both new and existing software solutions.  An Application Analyst II is expected to perform as a senior analyst while being assigned to more complex assignments within the clinical and financial applications.


  • Evaluates current functionality, identifies and participates in process improvement opportunities, recommends innovative ideas throughout the hospital by working with the clinical and revenue cycle departments to optimize software and departmental processes while taking into account benefit, risk, and cost.
  • Analysis, design, coding changes, testing, etc. of new and existing software following industry standard software development processes.
  • Evaluates and recommends technical solutions to complex issues while understanding the workflow of the users/department.
  • HL7 Interface development, testing and implementation including ongoing support.
  • Develops training/educational materials for end-users.
  • Investigates, diagnoses, and resolves process or software issues.
  • Drives policy changes in conjunction with business owners.
  • Documents projects from initial research through implementation to post-implementation review.
  • Designs custom reports to support users’ ad-hoc reporting needs.
  • Ensures project deliverables are achieved within identified time frames.
  • Monitor and report quality data as it relates to the EMR and clinical applications.
  • Project management as required for complex assignments

  • Must have strong analytical skills, be detail oriented and able to maintain a collaborative working relationship with both customers and IT team to ensure a productive positive work environment.
  • Knowledge of hospital IT applications including an understanding of integration with third party vendors.
  • Extensive knowledge of hospital/healthcare departmental processes.
  • Complies with applicable regulatory agency guidelines as well as federal/state laws rules and regulations.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate well with non-technical customers.
  • Self-motivating and open to ambiguity.


  • Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and minimum 5 year experience in a healthcare related discipline required. Meditech experience preferred.
  • Experience with statistical analysis, data management, or analytics required.
  • Project Management experience required.
  • Thorough understanding of Microsoft Office Products, and intermediate PC skills.   Meditech NPR Report Writing and HL7 Interface experience preferred, but not required. SQL database knowledge preferred but not required.


Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.


Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


No licenses necessary.


Strong analytical and problem solving skills as well excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must.  Works independently with general direction and makes high quality decisions for the greater good of the organization.  Escalates to management as appropriate.  Prior experience involving successful implementation of large-scale projects within a healthcare setting is highly desirable.  Project management skills including the ability to develop project plans, identify resources, and manage issues. Software Development methodologies including waterfall and agile. Ability to seek out educational opportunities to build and maintain both technical and professional skills.

The individual must be a team player, establishing and maintaining good working relationships with end-users, vendors and peers.  The ability to independently establish priorities, articulate workflow and meet deadlines is essential.

Work Schedule:  Full-time, days; Participates in on-call rotation and assists in the management of Help Desk calls
